Firefighting isn’t a typical 9–5. It’s a career built on service, teamwork, and responding when others need help most. If you’re driven to serve your community, apply to join the Franklin Fire Department!
After submitting your application, you must register for and complete the written exam through the National Testing Network (NTN), a standardized testing service used by fire departments nationwide.
Firefighting requires strength, endurance, and physical readiness. You must pass the Fireground Physical Ability Test (FPAT) to advance. Click to learn what this assessment includes.
Your performance throughout all evaluations is scored and used to determine your rank on a Certification List. Candidates may receive a conditional job offer based on their placement on the list.
Conditional job offers are contingent upon successfully completing a comprehensive background check, polygraph examination, and an NFPA 1582 pre-employment physical.
The Franklin Fire Department's Recruit Academy is a physically demanding, entry-level training program for Fire Cadets and Fire Interns with no prior firefighting experience. It combines daily physical training, hands-on skills, and classroom instruction. This rigorous, 20-week program prepares recruits for the mental and physical demands of a career in the fire service.
