Written Exam

The City of Franklin utilizes the National Testing Network (NTN) for applicant testing. This standardized testing service is used by fire departments nationwide. The NTN cognitive/behavioral examination assesses areas such as reading comprehension, mathematics, mechanical reasoning, and human relations.

  • The written exam is administered online through the NTN - Candidate Portal
  • Applicants must create an NTN account and complete the exam by the established deadline.
  • A testing fee (approximately $65) is required and is paid directly to the testing provider.
  • A practice test is also available through the National Testing Network: Practice Tests | FireTEAM Practice Test | FrontLine National Practice Test
  • Test scores are valid for one year.
  • Candidates who have a completed application and have passed the written exam will be invited to advance to the next phase of the hiring process based on exam scores. The next steps include the Fireground Physical Ability Test (FPAT) and in-person panel interview.
